Located in Glaslough, Ireland, this luxury castle hotel is one of the top castle hotels in Ireland. The castle resides on 1000 acres of the rolling Irish countryside and is home to ancient woodlands and glittering lakes. The castle is famous for being one of the last great Irish estates still in the hands of it’s founding family. The Clan Leslie arrived in Ireland in the 16th century and built the castle in 1870 for Sir John Leslie. Today Castle Leslie hosts many weddings including the wedding of Sir Paul McCartney. Along with a church, is a hunting lodge, cooking school, spa, and exclusive riding stables on the grounds. The riding stables host horses for guests to ride and have boarding facilities for locals. While staying at the castle, popular activities include riding, hiking, and fishing.

International Rural Exchange Canada sent a trainee in 2019 to work at the Castle Leslie Estate as a groundskeeper. A dedicated team of qualified gardeners cares for the grounds. You could be a part of this team! The placement involves gardening projects across the estate. Cutting grass, edging and trimming, weeding, pruning, deadheading, planting, and propagation are some of the tasks. Weddings held at the castle require flowers, therefore collecting foliage and conditioning flower material for flower arrangements may be included in your tasks. You have the opportunity to work with experienced professionals and have the chance to ask questions. Other professionals are often invited to the castle to demonstrate landscaping techniques and you might have the opportunity to be involved with these sessions. Lodgings are shared staff houses in the village of Glaslough, a short 10-minute walk from the castle. Amenities in the town include the essentials: a shop, hairdresser, coffee shop, and a pub.

We hope to send you abroad soon to gain more experience and explore the country.
